Beaches
Vassilias Beach, translated as the Kings’ Beach is tucked amongst pine covered hills and is a peaceful stretch of sand and pebbles below steep cliffs. Vassilias, like most of the beaches on Skiathos, has clear and calm waters, making it ideal for swimmers and children. A Taverna close by serves local seafood delicacies and the trees provide natural shade from the mid-day sun and the meltemi winds in August.  Although only 6km away from the capital of Skiathos Town, Vassilias Beach remains quiet in its secluded position. Other more lively beaches such as Troulos or Banana Beach can also be reached quite easily by local transport.
 
Out & about
Although a small island there is much to do on Skiathos if the mood takes you. For water sport enthusiasts, the sea conditions make for ideal scuba diving and there are several PADI centres on the island that cater for beginners and experienced divers.  Just off the coast at Skiathos Town there are three uninhabited islets of Tsougria, Tsougriaki and Arkos that are very popular for excursions with boats leaving Skiathos all day. These are away from the crowds and have very good beaches.

Walking
There are many beautiful walks with breathtaking scenery around Skiathos. There is the Bourtzi Fortress or the Kounistra Monastery and many churches to be found.  There is also a dog sanctuary near the monastery above Troulos and you can walk the dogs if you fancy something different. There are dirt tracks around Troulos to the northern beaches at Asselinos, passing the Kounistra Monastery on the way.
 
Skiathos Town
No holiday to Skiathos would be complete without a visit to the capital. With a typically lovely old town and a lively bar scene at night there is something here for everyone whether shopping or night life is your thing. Many people simply pull up a chair outside one of the many tavernas and watch the world go by. There is also a wide variety of restaurants serving local and international cuisine. The old harbour is also traffic free and perfect for that after dinner stroll.
