Perissa Things to Do
Beaches
The volcanic beach at Perissa is one of the most popular on the island, and has characteristic black sands stretching for 7km along to the next resort of Kamira. The resort can get busy, but there are quieter stretches to visit along the coast for a change of scene, and water taxis heading out along the shores.
Water Sports
There is plenty of activities to enjoy in Perissa on the water including jet skiing, waterskiing, windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving and sailing.
Water Park
Perissa has a water park with three pools and water slides, making an excellent family day out for those looking for an alternative to the beach.
Entertainment
A true tourist town, there is plenty to keep visitors busy, with a great choice of tavernas, restaurants, beach bars and clubs for a lively week or two away. Nearby Kamari has an open-air cinema, and the best shopping can be found in Fira, 15km away.
Walking & Hiking
There's excellent terrain for walking and hiking around Perissa, with ancient trails leading through the mountains, and donkey trips available for those who wish to follow the routes the old-fashioned way.
Local Sights
The town is known for its landmark, Mesa Vouno, a huge rock which protrudes from the sea and is dramatically illuminated at night. There are local churches to visit, the Church of the Holy Cross and the Byzantine Agia Irina, and there are traditional villages nearby such as Emporio to stroll around. Ancient sites such as Thera and the Minoan settlement at Akrotiri can be visited too.
