When to go

The summer months are the best time to visit Rhodes Town if you like hot weather and a lively atmosphere. The high summer season stretches from May through October and you can expect 30C plus temperatures during this period. The early spring and autumn months are quieter, pleasantly warm, and the ideal time for sports activities including golf and walking along the scenic coastal routes. During both of these seasons and during the winter months you will be able to benefit from discounts on accommodation and flights.

 

The weather in Rhodes Town

Rhodes Town is blessed with one of the best climates in Greece with over 300 sunny days per year. The daytime summer temperatures will easily head up to and over 30C from June through September and the evenings will be a warm 23C. The weather in Rhodes Town is stable for much of the year although some rainfall will occur from the end of October to mid-March. The early spring and late autumn weather will be warm at around 20C and even the winter months will bring sunny days and temperatures of 16C.

 

Getting the best deal

May through October is the high season in Rhodes Town but the peak summer months of June, July and August are the most popular, and the most expensive. Good holiday discounts can be found during the high season if you book in advance or can take last minute holidays. Easter and the October school holidays are also popular, but lower rates on accommodation and flights are available if you avoid the school holidays during the spring and autumn months.

Airport and transport need to know

Rhodes Airport (RHO) is a mere 25 minutes from Rhodes Town giving a very short transfer time. There are frequent direct flights to Rhodes from May to October from most UK city airports. There are flights all year round but the November to April flights may be less frequent. Flight time to Rhodes is approximately four hours; Rhodes Airport provides currency exchange, a restaurant and bar, and car hire facilities. Metered taxis are available at the airport with a fare of approximately 15 euros (£12).

 

Independently pre booking a shuttle is a good option and this can be arranged online. Hiring a car is another good option if you wish to explore the island; the main roads are in good condition and driving is one the right hand side. Car hire can be independently booked online but prices do vary and obtaining quotes from different companies is a good idea.

 

The best beaches in Rhodes Town

Rhodes is home to miles of beautiful golden beaches all lapped by the exceptionally clean waters of either the Mediterranean Sea or the Aegean Sea; Rhodes Town is located by the Aegean Sea. You can expect exceptionally clean and unspoilt beaches in Rhodes and many of the larger resort beaches have been awarded the European Blue Flag. Rhodes will be the right choice if you are looking for secluded coves and bays, lively resort beaches or naturist beaches.

 

For a convenient stretch of beach located within Rhodes Town limits head to Akti Miaouli Beach. This is a pebbly beach within walking distance of the town and is a great place to simply grab a sun lounger and relax throughout the day. The shallow waters are ideal for children to play in. As the beach is located next to the town there is no shortage of restaurants and cafeterias from which to grab a snack or cool drink.

 

For a more secluded beach take the 20 minute drive to Tsambika Beach. This picturesque golden sand beach is lined with palm trees and lapped by incredibly blue shallow waters. The beach is overlooked by a monastery set high on a hill, which gives amazing panoramic views over the bay. This is definitely a beach worth discovering if you are looking for peace, quiet and amazing views.

 

Afandou Beach is located 20 minutes south of Rhodes Town. This is one of the liveliest and most popular beaches on Rhodes and the golden sands stretch for three kilometres. A number of watersports are available on Afandou Beach including jet skiing, boat tours, banana boat rides and wake boarding. The 18-hole professional Afandou Golf Course is located nearby if you want to get away from the beach and practice your golf swing.
