The beautiful beach resort of Kalathos is located on the east coast of Rhodes only 4km from Lindos. Kalathos exudes a more relaxed atmosphere with its uncrowded beaches and historic village. When to go
Summer in Kalathos begins in May and lasts until the end of October but you can holiday at this resort all year round. The peak summer months are the busiest thanks to the high temperatures, and Kalathos is popular during the school holiday periods of Easter, August and October. The summer months are when higher rates are applied but you can find good deals by booking in advance. Spring, autumn and winter are still warm and Kalathos is laid back and relaxed during these seasons; the low season months are the best time to pick up reduced prices on flights and accommodation.
Weather in Kalathos
If you love hot summer days and high temperatures you will feel right at home in Kalathos. Daytime temperatures will head up to and over 30C from June through September and the evenings will be a warm 22C; perfect for alfresco dinners in the restaurant gardens. Swimming in the warm Mediterranean Sea is available as late as November and rainfall is very rare throughout the summer months. Spring and autumn are particularly beautiful seasons with temperatures of just over 20C while the winter months are still sunny with temperatures of 15C.

Airport and transport need to know
There are direct, frequent flights to Rhodes (RHO) from most UK city airports from May through to October with a flight time of four hours. Flights outside of the summer season may not be as frequent and may be limited to larger airports. Rhodes Airport provides facilities including a bar, restaurant, cafeteria, currency exchange, banks, metered taxis and car hire. Transfer time to Kalathos will be approximately 50 minutes with a fare of 74 euros (£60) based on two sharing.
Independently booking a shuttlebus transfer online will be an inexpensive option with a fare of around 12 euros (£10) per person. Car hire is another convenient option and cars can be booked independently online for around 123 euros (£100) per week. The main roads are in good condition with driving on the right. Shopping around online for transfers and car hire will ensure the best prices.
Best beaches in Kalathos
Rhodes is home to some of the most beautiful and popular beaches in Greece and words such idyllic and tranquil are often used to describe them. The beaches on Rhodes mainly consist of golden and white sands although the north of the island does have more pebble beaches. Kalathos lies on the Mediterranean Sea and these incredibly clear blue waters are perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving. A holiday in Rhodes means you have easy access to secluded picturesque beaches and lively resort beaches.
Kalathos beach stretches for around four kilometres along the coast to Haraki. This shingle and sand beach is an ideal place to relax on a sun lounger while the children play in the warm shallow waters. There are plenty of facilities nearby including tavernas and restaurants. This beach does allow nudism but due to the size of the beach there is never a problem with overcrowding.
Lindos lies just four kilometres from Kalathos and the spectacular St Pauls Bay is one of the most photographed beaches in the Aegean. There are two beaches at this amazing bay and this is the ideal spot for watersports such as scuba diving and snorkelling. There is a watersports centre at St Pauls Bay and the beach is also a great place to hire sun loungers and simply relax for the day and watch the sun set over the sea.
Just before you arrive in Lindos you will come to another beautiful little beach at Vlicha Bay. This is a small beach in comparison to other beaches on the island yet big enough that it never becomes crowded. Vlicha Bay is the perfect spot for relaxation and peace away from the more crowded beaches. There are a couple of little eateries near the beach serving sandwiches, pancakes, coffee and cold drinks.
