Ixia Holidays

Ixia Holidays – Popular beach resort close to Rhodes Town

Ixia lies on the north west coast of Rhodes, a mere four kilometres from the vibrant and historic capital city of Rhodes Town. Ixia will appeal if you are looking for a beach resort within easy access of the traditional and cosmopolitan restaurants, bars and nightclubs of the capital city. The beautiful beach at Ixia is well maintained with many nearby hotels and self-catering apartments. Watersports, golf and the immense water park at nearby Faliraki are some of the attractions that make Ixia a hit with families, couples of all ages and groups of young people.

The close proximity to Rhodes Town means that trips to Marmaris in Turkey and the picturesque island of Symi can be included on Ixia holidays. But as with all holidays in Rhodes it is the beautiful beaches at Ixia and nearby Ialyssos and Kalithea that will prove to be the biggest attraction of all.

When to go

If you are visiting Ixia for the beaches and watersports lifestyle then the hot summer months will be the best time to visit. June through September brings the highest temperatures and Ixia is a popular resort; this will also be the most expensive time to visit. If you favour sports such as golf, walking, cycling and exploring the island then the spring and autumn months do bring warm rather than hot weather. The low seasons months during spring, autumn and winter are also the best times to pick up discounts on flights and accommodation.

The weather in Ixia

With one of the best climates in Greece you can be assured of hot weather during the long summer months in Ixia. Daytime temperatures during June to September will soar up to and over 30C while the evenings will be a warm 23C. Swimming is still an option even during early spring and late autumn when the temperatures hover around 20C; even the winter months will be sunny at 15C. Humidity levels are low throughout the year and rainfall during the long summer months is rare with rain only tending to appear from the end of October to mid-March.

Getting the best deal

Some excellent holiday deals are available all year round but try to avoid the school holidays during Easter, August and October to obtain the best savings. If you do wish to visit Ixia during the peak holiday periods then booking in advance will bring good savings. Spring, autumn and winter are when the best deals can be found and when flights and accommodation come with reduced rates. Last minute bookings will also bring excellent savings if you have a flexible schedule.

Airport and transport need to know

Ixia is served by Rhodes Airport (RHO), and frequent direct flights depart from most UK city airports between May and October. Flights are available outside of the summer season but may be limited; flight time to Rhodes is four hours. Rhodes Airport provides a number of facilities including a bar, cafeteria, restaurant, currency exchange, car hire and taxis. Transfer time to Ixia will be a very quick 20 to 30 minutes with a fare of around 19 euros (£16) although a shuttle bus transfer may be cheaper.

Independently booking a shuttle bus or taxi online is a convenient way of having a vehicle waiting at the airport to meet you. Shop around online to find the best quotes available. Car hire is another inexpensive and convenient option and can be independently booked online. The main roads on the island are in good condition with driving on the right.

Best Beaches in Ixia

The Greek island of Rhodes is famous for its beautiful, unspoilt beaches and clear blue Aegean and Mediterranean Sea waters. The beaches around the coast include pebble, golden and white sand, and many have been awarded the coveted European Blue Flag for cleanliness and safety features. Rhodes is home to some of the most picture postcard beaches in the world and it’s very easy to find a secluded bay or a lively resort beach.

Ixia Beach is a mixture of public and private beaches; some of the private beaches belong to the hotels along the seafront. This is a very convenient pebble and sand beach and is home to two watersports centres where you can try windsurfing, jet skiing and boating. There are plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars nearby and sun loungers can be hired on the beach.

If you are looking for a more secluded beach with fewer crowds then stay on Ixia but walk south to find a sandy beach with crystal clear waters that are ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The further south you walk the less crowded the beach becomes and this is the perfect place to just relax on the sand and enjoy the peace. The shallow waters are very calm and ideal for children to play in.

For a beautiful and famous beach take the short trip eight kilometres south of Rhodes Town to Kalithea. This beach provides magnificent views and a day can be spent here relaxing on a sun lounger under the shade of a parasol. Kalithea is famed for its hot medicinal springs that are thought to be a cure for certain ailments.
