Lakka Holidays – Unwind and relax on the charming island of Paxos

This little port on the north coast of the island presents an idyllic and picturesque place to stay, with Lakka holidays a great choice if you are looking for a tranquil base on an unspoilt Greek island. The resort has a beautiful setting, with the natural harbour stretching around a horseshoe-shaped bay, and the tiny tumbling Lakka surrounded by lush olive and cypress trees. There’s a classic Greek scene here, with a whitewashed village full of narrow streets, little shops and welcoming tavernas boasting a unique character and charm, and a welcoming atmosphere.

A change from the bigger more developed islands, Paxos is perfect if you’re looking to experience the authentic side of Greece. Lazy sunbathing on the two local pebble beaches, Harami and Kanoni, and leisurely boat trips are the order of the day, and with Paxos being one of the greenest islands, you can get out and discover the beauty of the lush green countryside, on scenic walks, hikes and bike rides.

When to go

The tourist season in Lakka runs from May to October, and like all of Greece, the busiest time to come is during the peak season weeks of July and August. This is the most expensive time, too, and sees the hottest weather, as well as the most crowds in the harbour town. Thanks to the excellent climate, an early or late-season holiday can be ideal, with May, June or September departures available at much lower prices. The chance for cooler temperatures also make the quieter months of the year a good time to come if you want to enjoy walking, hiking and sightseeing.

Best beaches in Lakka

The island is blessed with a delightful coastline, with Paxos beaches featuring pebble shores in beautifully scenic coves, and offering a peaceful and relaxed scene for sunbathing and swimming. Lakka is home to two local beaches in a lovely sheltered bay, and the uncharacteristic sandy seabed underfoot makes them some of the most popular on the island. Here are our picks for the best beaches in and around the resort

Best beach for sunbathing – Kanoni Beach

Kanoni Beach, at the head of the bay, offers an excellent base for a day’s sunbathing, with the idyllic setting really adding to the charm. There are sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, and the beautifully clear sea, with sand underfoot, makes the beach an ideal choice for families with children. Being located between the headlands, there are calm protected waters here which shelve gently into the sea, offering excellent conditions for swimming.

Best beaches for activities – Harami Beach

The resort’s other sheltered beach, Harami, also sees calm seas and a sandy seabed, making it ideal not only for swimming and sunbathing, but a number of water sports, such as pedaloes, donut rides and water-skiing. You’ll also find fantastic conditions for scuba-diving, with the local school offering tuition and varied dives.

Best beaches for isolation – Plani Beach

Head west around the coast to Plani Beach for real peace and quiet, and some spectacular views out across the Ionian Sea. The beach here is much more isolated, so you’ll enjoy a tranquil and relaxed day by the sea.
