The tourist season on Naxos runs from May to October. July and August are always a busy time in the Greek Islands, with Naxos Town being no different, and these high-season weeks seeing a crowded waterfront, high prices and the hottest weather. An alternative can be an early or late season holiday, with the countryside in May and June being at its most attractive, and the cooler temperatures being suitable for outdoor activities. There’s fantastic weather in September and October, too, with the long sunny days still perfect for the beach.

Airport and Transport Need to Know
To get to Naxos Town, fly to either Mykonos (JMK) or Santorini Airport (JTR), with departures from London Gatwick, Manchester or Birmingham, and a flight time of just under 4 hours. Transfers are generally included on your package holiday to Naxos Town, with the ferry crossing to the island taking 1 hour from Mykonos, or 2.5 hours from Santorini.
There is an airport on Naxos, but it operates domestic flights only. You can also get to Naxos from Athens International Airport (ATH), by taking a 30-minute internal flight or catching either a high-speed ferry (3.5 hour journey), or a regular ferry (cheaper, but a 6 hour journey).
Once in Naxos Town, there’s a free minibus which serves the town centre, and the island’s bus station and taxi station are both located at the harbour, with regular bus services operating around the island, and departures roughly every 30 minutes. Car hire is a recommended way to get around the island, with scooters, mopeds and bikes available, too.

An internationally-renowned windsurfing beach, Mikri Vigla lies 16km south of Naxos Town.
