Lesbos, the third largest of all the Greek Islands, enjoys hot dry summers and mild winters - a characteristically Mediterranean climate. The island is known as one of the sunniest places in Greece, boasting almost 3,000 hours of sunshine every year, and enjoys an annual temperature of 18C.
Climate in Lesbos - Hot dry summers with cooling breezes
Spring sees temperatures of between 16C and 20C, with bright clear days and plenty of sunshine. This season is ideal for walking and hiking holidays, with the island a favourite with bird-watchers during spring. During June, the temperate starts to rise, with highs of 24C and rising to an average of 27C, sometimes reaching the low 30C's. The sun shines all through the summer months, making the island the ideal spot for a relaxing beach holiday. Lesvos does see some strong summer winds during the high season, especially the 'meltemi' winds which blow from the north, which help to keep the climate much more comfortable.
Lesbos Winter Weather - Mild winters with plenty of rainfall
The autumn months bring pleasant weather, similar to the spring, and fewer crowds. Temperatures during October reach around 20C, dropping to 15C in November, with the winter months marking a cooler wetter period. December is the wettest month, when the island receives around 150mm, with this abundant winter rainfall and temperate climate all contributing to the islands' lush vegetation. The average winter temperature reaching an average of 10C, with Lesbos still seeing plenty of sunshine during this time.
