Perigiali Things to Do
Beaches
Perigiali is home to a quiet but unspoilt stretch of shingle beach. The beach has beautiful views across the Vylcho bay taking in the many islets that can be explored by boat. Very close by is Nidri which has a gently sloping beach of sand and shingle and is ideal for swimming and water sports. There are many other beaches to explore around Lefkas including the famous windsurfing resort of Vassiliki, or, if you are brave enough to descend the 300 steps you will find yourself at Egremni.
Out & About
Lefkas Town is easily accessible if you are on holiday in Perigiali and you will find many fine restaurants and tavernas surrounding the main square. Dining ‘al fresco’ and watching the yachts coming and going from the marina is a peaceful pastime. For more of a party atmosphere then the busier tavernas at Ligia or Nidri are the places to go. Lefkas Town also offers the usual amenities of shops and banks.
Sightseeing
Perigiali is a good base from which to explore Lefkas. A spring or Easter holiday can take in the spectacular waterfall of Vafkeri after the rainy season when the water is fast flowing. Overlooking Lefkas Town is Faneromeni monastery which has superb views across the island. There are many trails for walking or cycling through the olive tree covered countryside and this is the best way of exploring the island and discovering quaint little churches and local tavernas serving freshly caught fish – along with a glass of the local Vertzamo wine!
Excursions
There are two sailing centres where depending on your experience you can hire a yacht with or without a skipper to take you round the coastline. Visit the nearby island of Ithaca, steeped in mythology or simply cruise the shimmering sea, stopping off at secluded coves when the mood takes you. Swim in the sea off the Island of Skorpios, owned by the Onassis family and let your imagination take you to another world. Lefkas is joined to the mainland by a swing bridge so the Greek coastline is easily reached.
Festivals
Lefkas Town plays host to an international folk festival in August which attracts groups from all over the world. Traditional music and dance displays make for a colourful spectacle.
