Nidri Things to Do

Beaches
Nidri beach is a mix of sand and shingle and sits close to the town with lovely views over the bay. The beach offers good facilities including bars and tavernas. As the beach slopes gently to the sea it is ideal for a family holiday and the warm waters of summer are ideal for swimming and water sports. A quieter alternative is the nearby beach at Perigiali or the famous windsurfing resort of Vassiliki at the south of Lefkas. For seclusion try descending the 300 steps at Egremni and you will almost have the beach to yourself.

Nightlife
Nidri has a good blend of traditional tavernas together with modern bars and nightclubs. Lefkas Town has a typically Mediterranean atmosphere with tavernas and restaurants surrounding the main square. Whether dining ‘al fresco’ at a local taverna or a more ‘happening’ bar is your scene, there is something for everyone and Nidri is a good base from which to access other areas of Lefkas.

Excursions
There are many sea going options from lazy catamaran excursions around the many smaller islands such as Skorpios, home of the Onassis family, to hiring a yacht (depending on your experience). Many small boats are also available for hire enabling you to explore the coastline in search of those secluded coves. Lefkas is joined to the Greek mainland by a swing bridge which allowing easy access to the coastline up to Parga.

Out & About
Take a gentle stroll through the olive groves and countryside and small churches and local tavernas will reveal themselves. There are also many cycle trails and hiring a bike is probably one of the best ways of exploring this charming island. Above Lefkas Town you will find Faneromeni monastery which has fine views over the island, there are Venetian churches and the capital is car free with plenty of shops. There are many waterfront tavernas to choose from, serving delicious freshly caught fish ideal with a glass or two of the local Vertzamo wine. If you are on holiday in May, pay a visit to the waterfall at Vafkeri where the water is fast flowing after the rainy season.

Festivals
Lefkas Town plays host to an international folk festival in August which attracts groups from all over the world. Traditional music and dance displays make for a colourful spectacle.
