When to go
Lefkas Town enjoys a tourist season that extends from May to October. The busy summer months of July and August are always the most popular time for a holiday to the island, and usually get booked up way in advance, commanding high prices. The island is at its most crowded during these peak season months, so the quieter low-season weeks are an excellent time to travel. You’ll see fewer people in the town, and still enjoy good conditions on the beach, as the weather is still glorious in both May and September, but cooler conditions are more comfortable for sightseeing and outdoor pursuits.

Lefkas, like the other Ionian Islands, sees a typically Mediterranean climate, with long hot summers and short mild winters. During the season, the capital sees average temperatures of at least 25C, and as much as 10 hours of sunshine each day – ideal for lazy days on the local beaches. Highs can reach 30C in Lefkas Town, and the average night-time temperature of 17C makes for pleasant evenings in the local bars and cafes. Spring and autumn see highs of around 20C – 23C and 7 – 9 hours of sunshine, with winters being mild, but wetter.

Airport and transport need to know
Fly from London Gatwick or Manchester to Preveza Airport (PVK), located on mainland Greece, and connected to the island by a floating bridge. Lefkas is located just 25km away, and it’s an easy journey from the airport, with the capital just a 20-minute drive. Transfers are included on a package holiday to Lefkas Town, however there is public transport from the airport, too.
Buses run to Lefkas Town, and there are taxis available, which charge a fixed rate. You can also hire a car from the airport, which is recommended if you want to get out and explore the island, as well as cheaper scooters and mopeds. Once in the resort, there is a bus service that runs around town, and being home to main bus station, there are regular buses around the whole of Lefkas, with departures to popular resorts such as Nidri and Vassiliki.

Best beaches for sunbathing – Kathisma
This very long stretch of sandy beach lies 14km east of the town on the west coast, and is one of the busiest on Lefkas. Extending for 2km along the coast, the conditions here are excellent, with lovely soft sands and turquoise waters, and a host of convenient tourist facilities for a relaxing day out.
Best beaches for activities – Agios Ioannis
Located just 1.5km west of the capital, the Blue Flag beach at Agios Ioannis is one of the most popular on the island. Gorgeous white sands, azure blue seas and strong winds here make it an excellent spot for windsurfing, second only to Vassiliki on the southern tip of the island.
