Beaches
Local beaches close to Kos Town include Lambi, Tingaki and Marmara. Beaches closest to the town tend to be the busiest, so for relaxing sunbathing, head along the coast for quieter stretches.
Harbour
The harbour is the hub of the town, and a bustling centre, with plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants. Many different boat trips depart from the port, heading along the coast, and out to islands such as Kalymnos, and Bodrum in Turkey.
Nightlife
A haven for party-goers, the cosmopolitan Kos Town boasts a thriving nightlife scene suiting all types of reveller, and is home to everything from laid-back bars and English pubs, to all-night clubs and international discos.
Shopping
Excellent shopping in the island's capital, especially in the Old Town streets, with good buys including leather, ceramics, jewellery and linens. Choose from upmarket boutiques and traditional souvenir shops, to busy local markets.
Dining
Again, Kos Town has a fantastic dining scene, with restaurants and tavernas serving all types of cuisine. The harbour has plenty of good choices overlooking the water, but for some hidden gems, stroll around town to find cheaper prices and authentic Greek fare.
Historical sights
Kos Town is also known for its historical sights, from the dominant Castle of the Knights dating back to the 15th century, and the famous Hippocrates Tree, to the ancient Roman ruins and amphitheatre. The Old Town is a fascinating maze of little streets and charming squares, ideal for strolling around, and the Archaeological Museum displays some interesting artefacts.
