Spartia Things To Do
Beaches
Spartia's beach is a mix of sand and shingle, and is positioned in a south-facing bay backed by limestone cliffs, perfect for quiet sunbathing. The rocky coastline is great for exploring, with plenty of little coves, bays and outcrops to discover. Other busier beaches to visit include Lourdas, Trapezaki, Pessada, Lithero, Lassi and Assos.
Water sports
Thanks to its sheltered position, Spartia boasts excellent conditions for sailing and wind surfing, with more extensive water sports facilities available at neighbouring Lassi.
Walking and hiking
The terrain around Spartia is ideal for walking and hiking, with the pretty rural countryside full of olive groves, vineyards and citrus trees. Mountain biking is also a popular way to get out and explore the region, and there is plenty of flat terrain along the coast.
Village
An authentic Greek village full of whitewashed houses with lush colourful gardens dotting the hillsides, Spartia has a traditional town square and handful of tavernas to visit, as well as local shops to browse around. The ruins of St. George's Castle sit above Spartia, adding to the charm and character of the village.
Dining
Try some traditional Greek food at the local tavernas and restaurants, including plenty of fresh fish, seafood, and regional produce such as cheeses and almonds, washed down with the local white wine, Robola.
Day trips
The capital, Argostoli, just 10 minutes away, is great for shopping and dining, and ferries can be taken to Zante, Ithica and Patra on the mainland from various coastal ports nearby. The Caves of Drogati and Melessani Lake, near Sami, are popular attractions, as are Myrtos Beach, Fiskardo Harbour and the fishing village of Skala.
