Skala Things to Do

things to do in Skala
Beaches
Skala is probably the most popular resort in Kefalonia and has beautiful sandy beaches. Set at the foot of the mountains, the beach is perfect for families with children as the sand gently slopes into the sea and is wonderful for swimming.  As it is over a mile long the beach at Skala rarely gets crowded and there is an abundance of restaurants and bars close at hand to enjoy a cooling glass of wine or ouzo.

Water Sports
The crystal clear water makes swimming and snorkelling ideal. Jet-skis, windsurfers, pedalos and more are available for hire. There is a dive centre which runs courses for beginners and also caters for more advanced divers to enjoy the rich under water life to be found.  To appreciate the coastal scenery from the sea, kayak tours take you through caves, to the many secluded beaches that can be found on Kefalonia.

Skala Town
Very close to the beach, Skala has many bars and restaurants to choose from. In the evening it is closed to traffic making that after dinner stroll more enjoyable. There are Roman mosaics to be seen and also the ruins of the Old Town are close by.

Out & About
Well worth a visit is the conservation area at Potamaki Beach which is home to the Loggerhead Turtles and evening turtle watches are organised for tourists to view this exciting spectacle.  Horse riding is available and a trek around Kefalonia’s coastline offers spectacular scenery.
