Sami Things To Do

Sami things to do
Harbour
Sami is the main port on the island, and there are regular ferries departing here for Ithaca and Patra, as well as scenic boat trips running along the northern coast. The harbour is the hub of the resort, lined with waterfront restaurants and tavernas, and a great place to sit and relax, just watching the boats coming in and out. In springtime, dolphins can often be seen swimming into the bay.

Captain Corelli
The 2000 film that made the island famous was shot in Sami, and fans can stroll through town spotting some of the familiar locations, or take themed 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin' tours.

Local caves
Both Melissani Lake and Drogarati Cave are nearby and remain major tourist attractions, with visitors able to take boat rides on the lake, and tours into the huge caves, full of fascinating stalactites and stalagmites.

Beaches
Antisamos is the local pebble beach, and there are plenty of quiet coves and hidden bays to discover along the coast for peaceful sunbathing. Other nearby beaches include Agios Efimia, and the island's best stretch, Myrtos Beach is an easy day trip.

Exploring
Cycling is a popular activity and a great way to get out and explore the area around Sami, with a number of coastal paths and trails through both the rural countryside and mountainous interior. There's great terrain for walking and hiking, and local stables offer horse rides and treks in the surrounding areas.

Day trips
The small Ionian island can easily be explored by car, with all the coastal towns accessible on a day trip. There are historical ruins east of the town, monasteries and churches to tour, and towns such as Fiskardo, Assos, Skala and Argostoli all popular attractions.
