Lassi Holidays
Lassi Holidays – A convenient Kefalonia base
Lassi is very conveniently located close to both the airport and the island capital, Argostoli. It is particularly suitable for family holidays, having two fine sandy beaches at Makrys Gialos and Platys Gialos, which are both child-friendly and offer a range of watersports.
The main road that runs through the resort offers a fair selection of places to eat, including one or two ethnic food options, some laid-back cafés and the odd bar. You can also easily get into Argostoli for better eating and nightlife options, as well as several interesting museums and the botanical gardens.
When to go to Lassi
You can visit Lassi any time, even during the rather mild winters, but only a few places stay open during the October to mid-April off season. However, the proximity to the year-round working town of Argostoli gives you more options. If you can possibly avoid the peak summer season of late July to late August, when both prices and temperatures hit their annual highs, then do so. Easter is an extremely atmospheric time, while the sea keeps its summer warmth through September and into October.
The weather in Lassi
The typical Mediterranean climate means plenty of sun and daytime temperatures that can top 35ºC in July and August and easily reach 30ºC anytime from April to October. It is a blessing that the hottest months are soothed by the brisk Maestro winds. The often balmy nights vary between 15–25ºC in the summer and only occasionally fall below 8ºC, even in the middle of winter.
The Ionian Islands get a fair bit more precipitation than most of the Greek Islands, especially during the winter months, although occasional showers can occur even in high summer. As there are around 13 hours average daily sunshine, you can rely on getting a tan.
Getting the best deal to Lassi
It is quite easy to find good deals on accommodation, even at relatively short notice, except during the peak season of late July to late August. Lassi has a large range of accommodation types, from small and large hotels to apartments and simpler rooms; many of these give huge discounts outside of peak season.
The best flight deals to Kefalonia are to be had outside the UK school holidays, although in winter you have to go via Athens. Look for our current best deals and last-minute holidays below.
Airport and transport need to know
Kefalonia airport (EFL) has no bus service but is quite close to Lassi so a taxi costs around €12 (£9.50). There’s a fairly frequent bus service to the main square of Argostoli (€1.50/£1.20), or you can walk in under half an hour.
It’s a good idea to rent a car if you want to see much of the island. You can reserve one online at Kefalonia airport with one of the multi-national rental agencies from around €25 (£20), depending on the time of year. In low season, you can often get better deals from local agencies such as CBR (www.cbr-rentacar.com).
Between April and October, Kefalonia has direct scheduled flights with easyJet from Gatwick and charters from Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester and Newcastle, as well as London airports. Scheduled flights via Athens operate all year.
