Weather in Assos –Mediterranean climate on Kefalonia’s rugged north-west coast  

Set on the north-west coast of the island, and 22 miles from the capital Argostoli, Assos enjoys a climate: typical of Greece: hot dry summers and mild, wetter winters. With the maximum summer temperature in Assos being 30C, excursions to nearby Myrtos Beach, with its great beaches and exciting range of watersports, are a must. For your entire summer break in Assos (and its surrounding area) you can virtually look forward to days on end of uninterrupted sunshine, as rain is minimal during this season. The average winter temperature is 13C, with rainfall throughout the season generally amounting to about 12 days’ rain per month.

 

Assos’s tourist season stretches from June to September, with temperatures in July and August climbing as high as 30C. Throughout July you can expect 13 hours’ sunshine. As the edge comes off the heat in September, a leisurely stroll around the village before popping into a local taverna for a cool drink and a chat or a quiet read could be an excellent idea.

 

Autumn holidays in Assos mean grey skies and rain as October passes into November and the temperature drops to around 19C. Increased rainfall throughout the winter season is very likely, with average temperatures across December, January and February levelling out at 13C. Spring in Assos lasts a little longer than in other Kefalonia resorts, with the average temperature throughout March, April and May being 18C – comfortable weather for exploring the ruins of the large Venetian castle which overlooks the village and offers impressive views far and wide. Expect some rain during this time. As May arrives you can begin to think about working on your tan as, by the end of the month, the temperature will have reached 23C.
