Capital City
As well as being the capital city of Kefalonia, Argostoli is the island’s main port. That means there is always plenty going on, particularity when evening arrives and people everywhere are feeling up for a great night out. The focus of Argostoli is the popular Platia Vallianou (the large main square). Often referred to by tourists and local people alike as the thriving town’s ‘heartbeat’, Platia Vallianou is perfect for an evening stroll after a family meal or a romantic dinner-for-two.
Beach
Although spending time around Argostoli’s impressive natural harbour is always a delight, for true beach-lovers it is best to branch out a little and head for the little beaches and coves at nearby Lassi. For watersports enthusiasts, a trip to Platis Yialos beach with is turquoise crystalline water is a must.
Nightlife
Argostoli has a good range of bars, tavernas and discos. For traditional music-lovers, a night out at a bouzouki club in Argostoli can be a treat. Enjoy a few drinks as some of Kefalonia’s most accomplished traditional musicians gather, tune up, and then play with sensitivity and passion.

With plenty of decent restaurants, bars, tavernas and cafes throughout Argostoli, deciding where to eat might prove a problem as you’ll be spoilt for choice! At Platia Vallianou you could take your pick of any of the numerous cafes, restaurants and bars.

The local markets in Argostoli add interest to the waterfront. As well as enjoying the colourful array of fruit and vegetables, watch as buyers from all around gather to stock up on the varied selection of fresh fish available.
Excursions
From Argostoli, how about taking a boat trip to the islands of Lefkas and Zante? You could also catch the ferry to Lixouri or the Greek mainland, but be sure to take your camera as the views of the approaching Greek mainland are lovely.
