Other villages within an hour’s drive of Vamos include Nipos, Kefalas and Kalives, all leisurely places with friendly locals and attractive architecture.

A holiday in Vamos is perfectly situated for visiting nearby Chania. Just 26km away, Chania offers a livelier atmosphere than Vamos, with plenty of good restaurants and tavernas as well as art galleries and museums. After a day enjoying Chania’s historic sites and bustling streets you can retire to the warm evening air and relaxed pace of Vamos.
 
Beaches
Located 4km from the coast, Vamos is well situated for a variety of beautiful sandy beaches. Georgioupolis, just 10km from Vamos, enjoys a long stretch of golden sand with a wide selection of seaside cafes and tavernas. The smaller resort of Almirida has two good swimming beaches and fabulous local seafood on offer. Other nearby beaches from Vamos include Kalives (6km), Kera (7km) and Kiani Akti (7km).
 
Historic surroundings
Vamos is surrounded by several sites of historical interest. From nearby Kalives you can visit Aptera and see a unique mixture of prehistoric, ancient and Roman ruins. At the beach resort of Almirida you can also see ruins of a striking 11th Century basilica and the historically significant Agios Georgios chapel is also nearby providing the perfect opportunity to soak up the area’s ancient history on your Vamos holiday.
