Platanias Things To Do

The beach in Platanias is situated 11 kilometers west of Chania and is immensely popular among tourists in the summer months. The long stretch of golden sand along the northern coast of the island, offset by the heavenly Mediterranean Sea is perfect for sunbathing, while there is no shortage of beach activities for all to enjoy. The usual water sports and beach games are on offer, as well as sun-beds, umbrellas and wind breakers, all available for rent at reasonable prices. Platanias plays host to thousands of tourists from around Europe every summer, and this is subsequently reflected in the cuisine on offer. Platanias is twinned with another resort, Aghia Marina. Both are identical, possessing the same extensive beaches with crystal clear waters and a town just inland. The only difference is Platanias’ old village which is signposted from the seafront. Though small, the village is home to some beautiful houses and the view of the Mediterranean Sea from the village is simply breathtaking.
