Plaka Weather

The traditional village of Plaka boasts a stunning location on the North East coast of Crete. Fantastic views, beautiful beaches and an abundance of sunshine make this a desired holiday location. The climate here is a combination of long hot summers with high temperatures and short mild winters. Constant summer sun is guaranteed from May until the end of October and temperatures will reach 30C during July and August. Cooler temperatures can be found in early spring and late autumn although there may be a chance of rainfall during these periods.

 

Hot weather lovers will find the peak summer months in Plaka ideal. Temperatures will hit 30C but higher temperatures in Plaka are not unknown. Rainfall during the summer is practically nonexistent and humidity levels are relatively moderate. Sunshine levels here are high during the summer months and holiday makers can expect an average of 12 hours of hot sunshine per day. Sea temperatures during the summer will be a warm 25C and swimming can be enjoyed as late as mid November. Evening temperatures are a warm 21C; perfect for dining in the open air restaurants while watching the sun set over the stunning Mirabello Bay.

 

The high levels of daily sunshine will be perfect for holiday makers who like outdoor pursuits. The early spring and late autumn months are warm, pleasant and ideal for exploring the area and nearby resorts such as Elounda. Plaka benefits from 300 sunny days per year and popular holiday periods such as Easter and October will still see temperatures hitting the mid twenties. Winter holidays will be cooler with higher amounts of rainfall but there will still be plenty of sunny days to enjoy.
