Panormos Things to Do

Panormos has two beautiful little sandy beaches that are the perfect spot for swimming, relaxing in the sun, and watching the amazing Cretan sunsets. There are also a number of charming beaches within walking distance of Panormos such as Kandouni, Linaria and Platys Gialos.

 

Daytrips from Panormos can include a visit to Rethymnon, Crete’s third largest town. Rethymnon is one of the most picturesque towns in Crete with its beautiful harbour, large beach and Venetian fortress. Culture lovers can also view the archaeological museum, the majestic Rimondi Fountain and the Turkish mosques in the town’s old quarter. Don’t miss the annual Renaissance Festival and the Wine festival, both take place during July.

 

Water sports in Panormos can include windsurfing, canoeing, sailing and snorkelling. Diving is available from the new dive school at Panormos, and lessons, equipment hire and excursions are available from the beachfront hotels.

 

Sightseeing in Panormos can include the ancient Minoan Palace and Royal Villa of Knossos located 5Km from the town of Iraklion. A trip to the cosmopolitan town of Chania will reward holiday makers with amazing Venetian architecture, chic restaurants and some of the best nightlife in Crete. Trips to view the natural wonders of the Samaria National Park and famous gorge can also be taken from Chania.

 

Outdoor sports in Panormos can include hiking tours from Kalymnos including the Vathys – Pothia Italian Road walk. Rock climbing here is also a popular extreme sport thanks to the limestone walls that back resorts such as Kalymnos. The diving festival during mid-August is open to all and includes underwater target shooting, cliff and wreck diving.
