Beaches
Palekastro is an unspoilt resort that is fast becoming a popular holiday destination. Sightseeing in Palekastro can include ancient Minoan ruins, and the Minoan city at Roussolakkos is still intact and includes a harbour and quarries. Other historical sites can include the Moni Toplou monastery and the Minoan palace at Zakros. The charming town of Sitia is a mere 18Km from Palekastro and the waterfront area is the place to go for exceptional seafood dishes at the numerous restaurants, bars and tavernas.

Walking and Cycling
The countryside in Palekastro is well known to hikers and cyclists. There are well established walking routes from Palekastro including the Zakros to the sea route known as The Valley of the Dead due the burial caves en route. The valleys, gorges and coastal paths are perfect for the mountain bikes that can be hired in Palekastro. Horseback riding tours of the countryside are also available from Sitia.
