Myrtos Weather

The gorgeous climate in Myrtos is the perfect compliment to this tranquil village and beach location. Myrtos is Crete’s southernmost village and benefits from over 300 sunny days per year. Hot winds blow in from North Africa helping to maintain the high temperatures for much of the year. The south coast of Crete receives less rainfall and higher temperatures than the north and will be ideal for sun lovers. Rainfall here will appear during the early spring, late autumn and winter months but this will not dampen the high temperatures.

 

Summer does come early to Myrtos and by May the temperature will head over the 20C level. June through to October will see temperatures in Myrtos hovering around and over 30C. High temperatures of 38C are not uncommon during the month of August. Rainfall in Myrtos is practically non existent during the summer months and the sea waters will be warm at 25C. Sunshine levels are high during the summer months, and holiday makers can expect around 12 hours of uninterrupted hot sunshine per day. At a minimum 21C the summer evenings will be perfect for dining in the open air tavernas and garden restaurants.

 

Humidity in Myrtos is relatively low all year round making exploring the south coast’s attractions such as the town of Ierapetra a comfortable pleasure. Holiday makers who prefer slightly cooler temperatures should consider the early spring and autumn months when 20C is the norm. Swimming in the warm sea is still available as late as mid November. Winter holidays in Myrtos will be cooler and the resort will be relaxed and quiet. Rainfall will occur during the winter but temperatures will still be high at around 18C with fours hours of sunshine during the festive period.
