Metochi Weather

The tranquil little village of Metochi oozes relaxation and basks in hot Greek sunshine for much of the year. Located just five minutes inland from Crete’s sunny northwest coastline this beautiful area is famed for its healthy climate and 300 sunny days per year. The climate in Metochi is typically Mediterranean meaning long hot summers, warm spring and autumn months, and short mild winters. Metochi’s location provides easy access to Crete’s most beautiful beaches and scenic countryside combined with the perfect climate in which to enjoy these natural attractions.

 

Uninterrupted sunshine, clear blue skies and very little rainfall are the staple weather conditions in Metochi from May until mid October. Temperatures during June, July and August will head up to and over 30C and there will be an average 12 hours of hot sunshine per day. This is the perfect time to enjoy the beaches at nearby Matala and Kalimaki. The sea waters from May onwards are warm enough for diving and snorkelling, and swimming can be available as late as mid November. At a minimum 20C, the night time temperatures are perfect for dining in the open air garden restaurants and tavernas.

 

Metochi’s northern location means that the heat is never as intense as found in the south of Crete. Temperatures will be a comfortable 20C during the beautiful spring and autumn months, and sunshine levels will stand at around eight hours per day. There will be slightly higher levels of rainfall during spring and autumn but these showers will generally be short-lived. Winter holidays in Metochi will be cooler at around 18C and the village has a more laid back atmosphere with holiday makers enjoying the winter sunshine.
