Matala Weather – Long hot summers, short mild winters
Located on Crete’s sun-drenched southwest coast, Matala is blessed with a typically Mediterranean climate boasting over 300 sunny days per year. Southern Crete does have drier hotter weather with less rainfall in comparison to the north of the island, and summer temperatures of 35C plus are not uncommon. Matala does have a rainy season from October until March and although rainfall can be heavy it will generally be short-lived. Matala is blessed with a high amount of annual sunshine and this is one of the reasons why the climate is considered to be one of the healthiest in Europe.
 
Weather in Matala – Stunning summer sunshine
Famous beaches and a hot climate are two of the major holiday attractions in Matala. From later April until late November the temperature will not usually dip below 20C. July and August are the hottest months bringing 30C plus temperatures and 12 hours of hot sunshine per day. September is another hot month and is considered one of the best for swimming in the warm sea waters. Rainfall is practically nonexistent during the peak summer months and evening temperatures will also be high at around 21C. Although summer temperatures in Matala will be high, the heat should never too intense thanks to the coastal winds that will drift in to temper the heat.

Holiday makers who prefer slightly cooler temperatures should consider a holiday in Matala during the early spring and autumn months. Temperatures during Easter holidays in April will be around 20C although October will be slightly higher. There may be some rainfall during the early spring and late autumn months but this will appear in the form of short-lived showers. Winter holidays in Matala are generally mild at around 18C with slightly elevated levels of rainfall.
