Chania is Crete’s old capital and is filled with Venetian architecture, historic churches and first class restaurants. The countryside and cliffs around Maleme provide the ideal destination for mountain biking and hiking. Horse riding is also available from the riding centre at the nearby village of Deres. History lovers will find plenty to occupy them with the famous German cemetery and the Minoan tomb that was unearthed in 1966. A trip to the White Mountains, the largest mountain range in Crete, boasting spectacular gorges is a photo opportunity that cannot be missed.

Nightlife in Maleme consists of atmospheric little tavernas, friendly restaurants and a handful of late night bars. Holiday makers who wish to sample Crete’s late night discos and clubs can take a short trip to nearby Platanias, Agia Marina or Chania.
