Loutro Things to Do

Harbour
Set around a pretty bay, the heart of sleepy Loutro is its harbour, home to ferries and boats, and lined with a handful of hotels, shops and tavernas. The best time to visit is during the low-season, as the village can get very busy in the peak summer months.

Walking & Hiking
There are plenty of walks and marked paths in the Loutro area, ranging from scenic cliff-top strolls to strenuous hikes along the Aradena, Imbros or Samaria Gorge, as well as the famous E4 Coastal Route that runs through the village.

Beaches
Loutro has pebble beach’s in town, but the better stretches of Sweetwater and Marmaris Beach can be reached by boat in the holiday season.

Water Sports
Scuba-diving is available, and canoes can be rented to explore the coastline.

Boat Trips
Ferries make the journey from Loutro to Chora Sfakion and Paleochora, and there are boat trips that depart along the coast for nearby beaches, coves and bays, as well as on fishing excursions.

Dolphin-Spotting Tours
Go to the wild and beautiful island of Gavdos, the most southerly point in Europe 45km south of Chora Sfakion, on a dolphin-spotting boat trip.

Dining
Water-front tavernas in Loutro offer low-key evening entertainment and serve up the locally-caught fish of the day, as well as traditional specialities of Crete.
