Villages
The peaceful village is ideal for those looking for a slower pace of life and the action revolves around sunbathing around the pool, strolling around the local shops, and visiting the traditional tavernas and cafes, some of which have spectacular views out across the coast. 
 
Beaches
Just 15 minutes down the hill there is a beach at Hersonissos, with other stretches to visit including Stalis, Kokkini Hani, Gouves and Malia.
 
Water Sports
Water sports available in Hersonissos are among the best on Crete and include jet-skiing, banana boat rides, ringos, pedaloes, windsurfing, water skiing, canoeing, sailing and paragliding.
 
Sports
Hotels and apartments in Koutouloufari have swimming pools, tennis courts and facilities for table-tennis, mini-golf and billiards, and there is go-carting and a golf course in nearby Hersonissos. Horse riding and mountain biking are available, and jeep safaris take visitors on exciting tours of the island.
 
Walking & Hiking
Set in the countryside, but with easy access to the coast, the terrain is great for walkers and hikers, and there are scenic paths and trails to follow throughout the area.
 
Boat Trips
Boat trips depart from the port down on the coast, and offer leisurely cruises to hidden coves and bays, fishing trips and excursions to Spinalonga Island and Santorini. 
 
Day Trips
Head to the local water park, stroll around the neighbouring villages of Piskopiano or Ano Hersonissos, or walk around the church at Agios Vassilios. There are buses running along the coast to Heraklion, Rethymnon, Agios Nikolaos and even Chania, in western Crete, and visitors can tour the ancient site of Knossos, hike along the Samaria Gorge or relax on the palm-fringed beach of Vai on the eastern tip of the island.
