Weather in Kamilari - Hot and sunny inland from Crete's south coast
This quiet traditional village is located just 2.5km from the southern coast of Crete, and lies just 2km west of the archaeological site of Phaistos. Being in the south of the island, Kamilari sees hotter drier weather than other villages and resorts in the north, and enjoys a typically-Mediterranean climate with a long tourist season, running from April to October.
Kamilari Weather - Warm spring days, soaring temperatures in the summer
Spring is a popular time to head to the resort, and the warm dry days of April see average daily temperatures of 20C. The weather is ideal for exploring the south coast, with its charming countryside and hidden villages, as well as enjoying outdoor activities such as walking and cycling. There are only 6 days of rain during the month, and 8 hours of daily sunshine. The weather does heat up in May, with temperatures reaching 23C, and by June Kamilari sees highs of 27C, and up to 12 hours of sunshine each day. Most visitors head to the nearby beaches of Kalamaki and Matala for a day by the sea at this time, and with virtually no rainfall during the summer, dry days are guaranteed. Peak season months of July and August see highs of 29C, and 13 hours of sunshine and with water temperatures reaching 24C, swimming, water sports and boat trips are popular activities. Kamilari does not experience the harsh winds of the meltemi that blow along the northern coast, so can feel hotter with higher humidity.
Weather in Kamilari - Mild winters, with much more rainfall
The village sees hot weather all through September, with daytime highs of 27C and 10 hours of sun, and the season begins to wind down in October, when the temperatures dip to 24C. Rainfall increases at this time, with 6 days of rain, with winters seeing much wetter weather, and January and February experiencing as much as 14 days of rain each month. Temperatures remain mild, however, with the average winter high between 16C - 18C.
