Kamilari Things to Do

Beaches
The long sandy beaches of the south coast offer a peaceful and unspoilt base for sunbathing and swimming, and include the local stretch at Kamilari, as well as Komos, Matala and Kalamaki.

Village
Life revolves around the sleepy town centre, and its small selection of local tavernas and 'kafeneios' in which to linger whilst enjoying the stunning views from the hilltop - an ideal spot for those looking for a traditional taste village life in Crete.

Walking & Hiking
As Kamilari is located amongst charming countryside, full of rolling farmland, olive groves and orchards, walking and hiking is a popular activity for visitors. The best time is during the spring, when the weather is sunny and warm and not too hot, and the countryside is in bloom.

Sports
Horse riding is also an excellent way to see the region, as is cycling along the paths and trails inland, and along the coast, and offers an alternative to a day at the beach.

Water Sports
Matala, just 3km away offers a number of water sports for active guests, such as banana boat rides, jet skiing, paddle boats, sailing and water skiing.

Day Trips
The ancient Minoan site of Phaistos lies nearby, as do the caves at Matalan and the site of Agia Triada, whilst the capital Heraklion and the historic Rethymnon in the north can be reached in around an hour.
