Kalo Chorio Things to Do

things to do in Kalo Chorio
Village
Kalo Chorio is a quiet village, set in some wonderfully scenic hillsides and offering stunning views out along the north coast and the Gulf of Mirabello. The pace of life is slow, and focuses around shopping in the local market, and relaxing in the tavernas and cafes enjoying leisurely meals and drinks.

Beaches
The three main beaches along the coast are a major attraction for all visitors to Kalo Chorio, and offer a peaceful base for sunbathing and swimming, with the livelier Agios Nikolaos just further along the shore.

Countryside
Walking, hiking and cycling through the countryside inland is a delight, especially in the spring and autumn months, as there are paths and trails that lead through the olive groves, orange trees, and hillsides full of flowering Mediterranean shrubs and herbs.

Boat Trips
The coast can be explored by boat, and a number of departures take visitors out to discover hidden beaches and coves, or on excursions to other resorts and attractions such as Spinalonga Island, Chrissi Island, and even across to Santorini.

Agios Nikolaos
Agios Nikolaos lies just 10km west of the resort, and offers a complete change of pace, with its vibrant working port and a multitude of shops, bars, restaurants and tourist facilities. Regular buses depart from Istron on the coast to the town.

Day Trips
The region, with its charming traditional towns and villages, as well as crumbling churches and monasteries, is best explored by car. Head to the capital Heraklion for shopping and dining, historic Rethymnon for sightseeing or even venture to western Crete and the charming Chania, with its Venetian harbour. The sites of Gournia and Knossos Palace are easily reached, and the beach at Vai on the east coast is a popular day trip.
