Weather in Ierapetra - Hot and sunny in southern-most town in Europe
Located at the eastern end of the island, on the south coast, the resort of Ierapetra lies 30km from Aghios Nikolaos, and like all the towns on Crete, enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winters. Being the southernmost town in Europe, temperatures here can expect to be slightly higher than others throughout the island. With spring temperatures of 19C, and highs of 30C in the summer, accompanied by up to 12 hours of glorious sunshine, the weather is ideal for both touring the many historical sites, and relaxing on the beaches of the area.
 
Ierapetra Weather - Long tourist season, from April to October
April sees the start of the long tourist season in Ierapetra, which runs until October. These early season days experience average daytime highs of 19C - 23C, and, with between 8 - 10 hours of sunshine, conditions are perfect for touring the region and playing tennis, riding bikes and cycling, before the island sees temperatures soar. The resort is relatively dry too, with just 36mm of rain falling in April, and there is no humidity, however the evening temperature does drop to 11C. May begins to heat up, with highs of 23C, and by June, Ierapetra is basking in 26C temperatures, with up to 12 hours of sunshine each day. Humidity increases at this time, and rainfall is virtually non-existent, with a monthly average of less than 6mm from June to August. Night-time temperatures are a warm 18C - 21C, with the warm balmy evenings well-suited to alfresco dining in the restaurants and tavernas, and evening strolls. The water temperature is also warm - reaching 25C in the height of the season, and great for swimming and water sports.
 
Weather in Ierapetra - Warm autumn days, mild winters
The weather in Ierapetra remains warm well into the autumn, with September seeing highs of 26C, with 10 hours of daily sunshine, and October only dropping to 23C. There is increased rain in October, with a monthly average of 72mm, and throughout the winter months, the resort sees wet weather, with as much as 123mm - 132mm in January and February.
