Fodele Things to Do

Village
Fodele is a working village, peaceful and unspoilt, and displays an authentic charm, with its traditional town square, Byzantine church and local tavernas. The main activities here include strolling through the streets, browsing the little shops and eating and drinking.

Beaches
There is a choice of beaches for sunbathing and swimming, just 3km down the hillside, and visitors can head to a developed stretch with a range of tourist facilities, or a more isolated quieter beach for peaceful relaxation. The coast is also full of both hidden coves, and busier resorts, such as Bali to visit.

Water Park
The town has its own water park, based in one of the hotels, with multiple pools and slides for family fun and entertainment - a change from the beach and a good place to cool off in the hot summer sunshine.

Water Sports
Water sports available include pedals, windsurfing, canoeing, scuba-diving and snorkelling.

Sports
Fodele has a selection of swimming pools, tennis courts, and gyms located in the various hotels, as well as facilities for basketball, mini-golf, archery, table-tennis, pool and billiards.

Countryside
Set amongst the rural countryside of Crete, full of orchards, orange groves and farmland, holidays in Fodele are ideal base for those looking to explore the region, with walks, hikes and bike rides available around the region. A popular route is through the forest to the monastery at Agios Panteleimon - a 5km walk.

El Greco
Fodele is home to the famous Greek painter, Dominikos Theotokopulos, known as El Greco. The village is home to a museum and a memorial dedicated to the great man.

Day Trips
There are regular local buses to Heraklion, and Chania and Rethymnon are well within reach. The ancient site of Knossos is a popular day trip, and visits to the Samaria Gorge can be arranged, as can boat trips to Spinalonga Island and Santorini.
