Elounda Weather

On the north-east coast of Crete you will find the popular tourist spot called Elounda, which experiences wonderful weather, with its typically-Mediterranean climate seeing hot dry summers and mild winters. Boasting an average summer temperature of 26C and 12 hours of sunshine, Elounda also sees a long holiday season, running from April to October, making it a popular choice for an early or late getaway.

 

Spring sees warm temperatures in Elounda, with March reaching 16C and the resort experiencing 6 hours of daily sun, and by April, the start of the season, the average daily highs are 19C, with as much as 8 hours of sunshine. These early days are ideal for exploring the island, and enjoying the beauty of the island when the countryside is in bloom, with conditions ideal for all types of outdoor activities. Rainfall is limited to about 70mm each month, however the evenings can still be chilly, with highs reaching just 11C. By May, Elounda sees temperatures of 23C, 10 hours of daily sunshine, and very little rain during the month - as little as 17mm. Peak season hits from June to September, when the sun is shining for a constant 12 hours each day, and the resort basks in 26C - 28C weather, with virtually non-existent monthly rainfall of 2mm - 6mm, and high humidity in July and August. The beaches are the place to be at this time, and thanks to the warm sheltered waters of the Mirabello Bay, swimming, water sports and boating are popular activities. The resort is also affected by strong winds that blow from the mainland, which bring a relief from the heat and humidity.   

 

Temperatures remain high in the autumn, with September seeing daytime averages of 26C, and October experiencing highs of 22C - with plenty of sunshine each day, as much as 10 hours. Rainfall is still limited, with October seeing an average of 70mm, and only in December does the amount of rain really increase, when the resort receives 120mm.  Winter temperatures hover around 14C - 16C, with mild weather experienced throughout the low season.
