Paleokastritsa Holidays

Paleokastritsa Holidays – Tranquility with amazing scenery for a perfect Corfu holiday

Paleokastritsa, which means Old Castle place, is a resort within a stunning setting. The village has long been considered one of the most beautiful villages in Corfu and is a renowned Greek beauty spot surrounded by olive and citrus fruit orchards.  It is a tranquil resort, which has magnificent scenery, and will appeal to those looking for peace and calm.

It is ideal for families who want a laid back holiday.  The cool waters of the sea offer swimming and water sports in an area of exceptional beauty and with a wide choice of beaches to choose from.  Paleokastritsa offers a range of tavernas, cafes and bars, with supermarkets and shops.  The resort nestles within steep hills and is, therefore, not suitable for those with walking difficulties.

At Agios Spyridon, the northern most promontory of the resort, lies the 13th century Theotokou Monastery. The Monastery gardens, set on a steep hillside, full of wild trees and olive trees give spectacular views of the sea and coastline.

The nearby village of Lakones is well worth of visiting to enjoy view of Paleokastritsa’s bays while enjoying a meal or drink.  Along the coast is the traditional village Krini with access to the famous Angelokastro, a castle built on a steep and rocky terrain with almost 360° views of the surrounding countryside.

When to go to Paleokastritsa

The best time to take a holiday in Paleokastritsa is in the spring and early summer or alternatively in the early autumn.  The weather is particularly good at these times.  The resort does get busy in the summer months partly due to day visitors from other parts of the island.

For those that enjoy walking, the early and late part of the season offers ideal weather conditions to see the beauty of Corfu on foot.  By October, as with most of the Greek islands, the tourist season closes down as the cooler, damper weather comes in.

The weather in Paleokastritsa

Corfu Island is the most northerly of the Greek islands and as such it has a milder climate than some of the more southerly islands.  There are less extremes, with summer daytime temperatures averaging 30°C falling to 20°C in spring and autumn.  There are 11 to 12 hours of sunshine a day in the summer months with virtually no rain.  The luxuriant greenest of the island is the result of the higher than average winter rainfall.
