Alonissos Things To Do

things to do in alonissos

Beaches
Alonissos holidays can enjoy a wide variety of beaches all lapped by what is considered to be the clearest waters in the Mediterranean. You can choose from the sandy beaches of Vythisma and Vrysitsa or head north of Patitiri to the beach at Khryssi Milia, which does get crowded in the summer. Head further north to Ayios Dhimitrios and find your own spot of deserted beach and relax in the sun, or swim and snorkel in the crystal clear sea.

Diving
As you would expect from a Greek island, scuba diving on Alonissos is an experience not to be missed. You can hire equipment and take lessons at the Alonissos Diving School; the underwater sights include ancient shipwrecks that date back to the 5th century B.C. The water clarity is amazing and you even have the chance to explore a sunken city.

Marine Park
Alonissos is located in a marine park preservation area and you are strongly encouraged to explore the beautiful scenery at your own leisure. You can spend the day trying to spot the endangered Monk Seals or take a tour of the deserted islands and watch schools of friendly dolphins swim by.

Boat Excursions
There are many boat trips from Alonissos to the nearby islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros, and of course the adjacent island of Peristera. Head to Skyros town for the Archeological Museum and the remains of the ancient acropolis. If you decide to stay overnight you will not be disappointed with the very late night bars and dance clubs in the town centre.

Day Trip to Athens
A day trip to Athens from Alonissos should not be missed. Historical sights include the Acropolis, the Theatre of Dionysos and the National Archeological Museum. Everything you could wish to see is located within a 30 minute walk, and after the sightseeing you can take your pick from the numerous bars, excellent restaurants and street front cafes.
