One of a chain of ‘water themed’ hotels, the 4-star Grand Aquarium is a great choice for families and couples alike. Guests are sure to be blown away by the pool area, with its large free-form pool and waterslide surrounded by tropical gardens, landscaped rock formations, palm trees and waterfall. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. For those looking to self-cater, each room comes with a well-equipped kitchenette. The hotel is conveniently located, not too far from Icmeler resort centre. The beach is approximately 20 minutes away and makes for a lovely walk, or you can catch the bus there cheaply. The town centre is around 1.5km away and easily walkable, however those travelling in peak season may find it a little too hot to walk, in which case catching a Dolmus into town is also very cheap. Icmeler itself is a delightful beach resort with a laid-back village vibe – very clean and well-maintained. Popular excursions from the town include day trips to the waterfalls of Pamukkale with their therapeutic spring waters, boat trips to Cleopatra’s Isle and excursions to the ancient ruins of Ephesus. There are plenty of bars and pubs here that open till late, but Icmeler is not primarily a clubbing destination – for a more high-energy night out, the bustling nearby town of Marmaris is only a short taxi ride away.

 

Accommodation at the Grand Aquarium consists of 61 simple, tastefully decorated studios and apartments, set across 3 floors. Studios sleep 2 adults and have a double or twin beds. One-bedroom apartments sleep up to 4 adults and come with a double or twin beds and a double sofa bed in the living area. Two bedroom apartments sleep up to 5 adults and come with a double or twin beds in both bedrooms, as well as a single sofa bed in the living area. All rooms come with air conditioning, kitchenette with 2-ring hob, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and utensils, safety deposit box, telephone, hairdryer, bathrooms with shower and WC and balcony or terrace.

 

There is a good selection of facilities at the complex. The centrepiece of the hotel has to be the impressive pool area. A large freeform pool surrounded by palm trees, Mediterranean vegetation, landscaped rock formations and a waterfall gives the impression of a secluded jungle lagoon. Kids will love the long, serpentine waterslide, and adults will enjoy relaxing on the spacious sun terraces, sipping a refreshing drink from the poolside bar. There is an on-site restaurant serving a selection of Turkish and international dishes that is very highly thought of – reviews frequently praise the excellent standard of food and generous portions. The hotel puts on a varied daily and evening entertainment programme, with activities such as water gym, killer pool and quizzes during the day and live music and shows at night. Sauna and massage treatments are available for a small fee, and there is a Turkish bath, Jacuzzi and gym. There is a games room with PlayStation, pool table and a TV room. Other useful facilities include a 24-hour reception, currency exchange, jewellers, hairdressers, laundry service, supermarket, internet access and free car parking.
