Tizzano is ideal for families and couples looking for a hidden gem, with the village only accessible via a long, meandering road and located in an isolated position on the south-western tip of Corsica. The beach here comprises a sweeping crescent of sand with a series of rocky coves around the bay, boasting clear waters with great conditions for snorkelling or scuba-diving. With just a handful of houses and restaurants the tiny fishing port remains quaint and unspoilt. Tizzano is also ideally suited to those looking for an insight into the ancient history of the area - with the southwest region being rich in prehistoric sites such as the standing stones at Paddagiu and the megalithic sites at Fontanaccua. Close to Tizzano is the medieval town of Sartene, its narrow streets, traditional village square and enticing local restaurants making it a popular tourist attraction. Other coastal resorts to see whilst visiting Tizzano include Porto Vecchio and Propriano. Holidays here also offer nature-lovers the chance to explore the coastal trails and surrounding countryside on walks and hikes, with horse-riding and mountain biking also available. May sees average temperatures of 18C, and around 9 hours of sunshine each day with the month still being fairly changeable, receiving 43mm of rainfall. June heats up to 22C with 10 hours of sun and the rainfall decreasing to 23mm, however the waters of the Mediterranean are still fairly chilly, at 20C. July and August see the hottest weather, with highs of 26C, 11 hours of sunshine and limited rainfall - as little as 10mm to 20mm each month. Visitors can enjoy pleasant evening temperatures of 17C and low humidity levels during the peak season, making comfortable conditions for sightseeing and sunbathing, especially with the warmer water temperatures of 23C - 24C.
