Sartene Things To Do
Explore Local Area
A holiday in Sartene is the perfect place for exploring - the local area is rich in wildlife and nature, landscapes and townscapes, history, archaeology and some of the most beautiful beaches imaginable.
Saurday Market
Smell the fragrance of local produce, delicious foods and exotic wares in the Place Porta, home to an intimate Saturday market packed with gorgeous local stuff.
Megaliths & Menhirs
Millennia ago, this was Asteix the Gaul country! The megaliths at Cauria, including the stunning Dolmen de Fontanaccia, called the ‘Devil's Forge’ by locals. There are the remains of a Neolithic burial chamber and the Alignement de Sartari to explore, an impressive series of huge menhirs plus the famous Alignement de Renaggiu, made up of forty or so vast chunks of rock.
Tizzano & Campomoro
The delightful little fishing village of Tizzano is surrounded by tiny, sheltered beaches. Lovely. Then there’s Campomoro, complete with picturesque whitewashed chapel and backed by low, serene hills. Visit the ancient Genoese watchtower for amazing views over the village and bay.
Procession du Catenacciu
This colourful re-enactment of the Passion goes back to the Middle Ages. Every Good Friday they chain up some poor barefoot person – voluntarily, we assume! - hide their identity under a red robe and hood, chain their ankles and make them carry a huge cross through the town.
The Hotel de Ville
Back in the 1500s, the Hotel de Ville belonged to Genoese lieutenants. This is a fabulous building with an amazing history, and gateway to the narrow streets of the ancient Santa Anna district.
Wine & Food
At their best, the region’s wines are totally delicious. Choose from mouth watering Saparales and Fiumicicolis, perfect for washing down local Mediterranean delicacies like plump local olives, crusty bread and wonderfully aromatic cheese.
Delicatessen Galore
Avoid the delights of the many stalls in the town centre if you’re hell bent on maintaining your holiday diet in Sartene. Otherwise you’ll feel faint in the face of all those locally made preserves, honeys, drinks, fruits, pastries… oh dear!
