The main beach at Calvi is sandy and shelves gently into the stunning azure waters of the Gulf of Calvi, making it an ideal beach for children, stretching for 6km along the coastline. Watersports available include jet-skiing, water-skiing, sailing and kayaking and there are some excellent rocky coves for scuba-diving and snorkelling. Calvi also has access to a host of activities such as tennis, horse-riding, mountain-biking, walking and hiking, mini-golf and go-karting. Most of the accommodation in Calvi is on the outskirts of town, and includes a range of hotels and self-catering apartments.

Calvi is home to an excellent selection of shops, bars and restaurants, and a lively marina on the waterfront offers the perfect base for watching the world go by. Small shops line the narrow cobbled streets, selling some great local produce and goods, and nightlife in Calvi is fairly relaxed, with a wide selection of bars, and a couple of discos on the outskirts of town. For those looking for history and culture, holidays in Calvi offer guided tours around the Genoese citadel, with its medieval churches, and nature-lovers will find excellent conditions for walking in the surrounding countryside, whilst visiting the little hamlets and villages inland, and driving through forests, valleys and rockpools. Day trips for visitors include the daily train ride to Bastia and Ajaccio, and trips to St. Florent, Galeria and Porto. The best months to travel to Calvi are the summer months between June and September. During this time, Calvi enjoys a pleasant average temperature of 22C, but temperatures can reach as high as 29C. Summers see a maximum of 12 hours of sunshine a day during July, with up to 10 hours in May, and 9 in September. The water temperature in Calvi does not tend to warm up until June, when it averages around 20C, rising to 24C in August. Summers are mainly dry, with May seeing an average of 46mm, July 12mm and September 54mm. Winters are generally mild, with lows in January and February dipping down to 9C, and the resort seeing 4 hours of sunshine. November is the wettest month in Calvi, receiving the most rain - up to 10cm.
