Bastia, situated on the northeast of Corsica, is the main commercial centre of the island - a thriving port town, dating back to the 14th century and boasting charming old quarters, which has developed into one of the most fashionable regions on Corsica. Bastia takes its name from the fortress or 'bastiglia' that dominates the town, and visitors will delight in exploring the distinct areas that the town has to offer. The port, Le Vieux Port, is the prettiest part of Bastia, with elegant 19th century buildings and colourful fishing boats moored in the azure blue sea, whilst the old quarter, La Terra Vecchia is filled with charming narrow streets and Baroque churches. One of the most fashionable places to visit whilst on holiday in Bastia is the historic district, La Terra Nova, or the Citadel quarter, home to many cosmopolitan cafes and bars, whilst the central Place St-Nicholas is the hub of the town for locals and tourists alike. As well as soaking up the city scene, holidays in Bastia can also offer plenty of relaxing beach time, with pebble beaches found just north of town such as Plage de Grigione and Plage de Miome, and long sandy beaches, such as Mariana, stretching south along the east coast.

Average temperature in summer season is 22C - 25C and average sunshine hours are 9-10 per day. Humidity is zero during summer season and average sea temperature is 20C - 22C. There is hardly any rainfall during the summer season.
