Karon Beach Things To Do
Beaches
A quieter alternative to the brash Patong Beach, Karon Beach is an idyllic stretch of sand lined with palm trees. With most of the hotels and guesthouses being set back from the beach, the shores have a more secluded and remote feel, and offer fantastic views at sunset.
Water Sports
There is excellent windsurfing here, thanks to the large waves, with facilities for jet-skiing, parasailing, banana-boat rides, waterskiing and wakeboarding. The coral reef at the southern end of the beach is a good site for snorkelling, and there are local dive sites off the coast.
Children
A great family attraction, Karon Beach has a mini-golf course, with a dinosaur theme and featuring an erupting volcano. Most of the larger hotels in the resort have pools, and some have well-equipped Kids Clubs with a range of services. Other family holiday activities include golf, horse riding, fishing trips and jungle tours, and even elephant trekking.
Spas
Visitors can indulge in an authentic Thai massage, offered on the beach and in the many parlours in the resort. Spas and beauty salons also feature a host of therapeutic and rejuvenating treatments to relax the mind, body and soul.
Dining
An excellent choice of eateries can be found in Karon Beach, with many restaurants lining the beachfront, and most visitors enjoying leisurely meals out in a relaxed and low-key setting. There are casual bars and cafes, and gourmet restaurants in upmarket hotels, with plenty of places to suit all budgets and offering both local Thai cuisine and international fare.
Shopping
There are plenty of bargains to be had at Karon Beach, with good souvenirs around such as sarongs, silks, art, wooden handicrafts, as well as clothing, CD's, electronics and jewellery. A great place to order a custom-made suit or dress, there are many tailors to choose from in Karon Beach, with respectable establishments able to create a quality piece in less than a week.
Day Trips
Visit the bustling Patong Beach at night for a complete change of pace, or head to the town of Phuket to see its sights such as the Butterfly Farm or Orchid Farm, as well as various temples and the Old Town. There are boat trips to the beautiful Phi Phi Islands, sea plane rides or cruises to the limestone caves at Phang Nga Bay, and a host of river rafting excursions, safari tours, rainforest tours and jungle treks.
