Directline Holidays FAQs

What is the ESTA requirement for US destinations?
The following statement can be found on the ESTA website. "All passengers travelling under the Visa Waiver Program to the United States are required to have an approved travel authorization prior to travelling to the United States by air or sea. Even non-ticketed infants are required to have approved travel authorization, if they do not have a visa for travel to the United States. An application may be submitted by a third party on behalf of a Visa Waiver Program traveller." Please visit the ESTA website.

The US government website details who is considered eligible to complete the form along with a comprehensive question and answers section. There will be a small charge requested by the US government, on a per person basis, collected during their own online process. Unless revoked, your ESTA details will be valid for two years. If eligible then you will need to complete the ESTA process, if you have not already done so, a minimum of 72 hours prior to your next departure from the U.K. to the US. The above information may be subject to change by the US Government, and we do recommend that you visit their website for the most up to date practices and advise regarding ESTA.

The Home Office Immigration Department here in the UK may also be able to check whether you require any special documentation for the countries you are visiting or for return.
I am a British citizen, how do I know if I need a Visa?

How do I apply for a new passport or renew my passport?
If you need to obtain a new passport we recommend you do so in good time. It can take several weeks for the government to issue a new or replacement passport to you. However they do now offer a fast track service for those of you looking to pay a premium to obtain renewal of passport within two weeks.

More information, application forms, and details of charges please visit the Passport office website.

Do my children need passports?
It is a current requirement, and has been since 5th October 1988, that children under 16 hold their own passports. Children already included on a parent’s passport are not affected by this change and can continue to travel on existing passports until their reach the age of 16, unless it expires. They would then be required to apply for their own. More information can be found by visiting the government website.
