Directline Holidays FAQs

What will the hold baggage allowance be for my flights?
The amount of Hold Baggage that you are allowed to take on the aircraft will vary depending on which airline you are flying with, and may also vary depending on if you purchased a flight only or package holiday. We have provided a guide below for your convenience. Please note that baggage policies are set by each airline and free allowances offered may be subject to change. Where no free allowance is given by the airline, you will find options available to let you upgrade when booking. Your booking confirmation may advise if you have hold luggage included. If you would like to upgrade your hold luggage after booking, please contact our customer services team. Additional charges may apply if adding hold luggage after you have booked, therefore it is usually better to add what you need at time of booking.

What should I do if my baggage is stolen, lost or damaged?
In the unlikely event that this should happen to you, you must remember to report any lost or damaged baggage straight away to the airline’s handling agent at your arrival airport. You will be given a PIR form (property irregularity report) to complete.

If your travel insurance policy allows you to make a claim for damaged or lost luggage, you will need to send a copy of the above mentioned form to them normally within 21 days. Please check your insurance policy for further details.
How can I find out what the current restrictions on hand and hold baggage are?

Do infants, those under 2 years old, have any hold baggage allowance?
Infants under the age of two on the date of your return flight will not be given hold baggage allowance. This is because the infant would be sat on the lap of an adult during takeoff and landing and does not require a seat. However many airlines will show kindness towards those travelling with infants such as allowing them to take a collapsible buggy and or car seat in addition to the companying adults hold baggage allowance at no additional cost. This is completely at the discretion of the airline and they may impose excess charges upon arrival at the check-in desk.

You may want to consider increasing the hold baggage allowance for one of the adults travelling to allow for some of the additional items you may wish to take on holiday for your infant. If you require a quotation for additional hold baggage allowance you are welcome to contact us. Alternatively please check with your airline prior to travel to find out what items they will consider carrying at no charge for you.
Can I take liquids onboard the aircraft?
The current restrictions apply to liquids being taken onboard the aircraft as hand baggage.

They are in individual container(s) no larger than 100 millilitres (3.5 fluid oz).
The container(s) are carried within one transparent re-sealable or zip-top plastic bag with a capacity not exceeding 20 cm x 20 cm or 8 inches x 8 inches or one litre capacity.
Customers will be responsible for providing their own re-sealable plastic bag.
The contents of the plastic bag must fit comfortably, are easily visible, are not packed on top of each other and the bag is completely closed.

The information above is provided as guide only. For the most up to date information we recommend you visit the Direct Gov website.
Can I increase the hold baggage allowance after I have booked?
In most cases it may be possible to increase your hold baggage allowance or increase the amount of bags it may be carried in. Each airline will set its own policy and pricing regarding hold baggage. Therefore we will need to provide you with a quotation upon request. When calling or e-mailing us please remember to include your existing booking reference so that we can respond to your enquiry more efficiently.

Please allow us sufficient time prior to your day of departure and ideally before your tickets are issued. We are unable to increase your baggage allowance on day of departure and therefore if you exceed your ticketed allowance, the airline may apply excess charges which are usually considerably higher.
