Holidays in S’Algar S’Algar, situated on the south-east coast of Menorca, is ideal for those looking for a quiet relaxing base, within easy driving distance of the capital, Mahon. One of the first purpose-built resorts to be developed on the island, S’Algar is a small, clean, well-maintained resort, with just two hotels and a large number of private villas, and offers a peaceful retreat for families.
Holidays in S’Algar – Quiet and peaceful The resort of S’Algar is unusual in that it does not have a sandy beach on its’ doorstep – just a man-made area on the seafront, positioned in front of one of the large hotels, with imported sand and plenty of umbrellas and sun loungers. The nearest natural beach is Cala Alcaufar, a charming narrow stretch of sand surrounded by craggy rocks, just a scenic 15 minute stroll along the coastline. Secluded and sheltered, Cala Alcaufar is an ideal location for children, with safe swimming and paddling conditions, and a bar and restaurant for those much needed refreshments. S’Algar has a small centre down on the front with a couple of supermarkets and some souvenir shops, and there is a good choice of restaurants serving traditional Spanish food. Nightlife in S’Algar is quiet, with a few local bars and one disco, and most of the entertainment is centred around the hotels, with competitions, childrens’ shows and discos offered.
Holidays in S’Algar – Great resort for water-sports S’Algar is known for its’ excellent choice of sports facilities, with one of most popular being the Club S’Algar Dive School, which offers not only scuba-diving instruction, but also windsurfing, jet-skiing and water-skiing. Lawn bowling is also available, with S’Algar home to seven rinks, which are open for both recreational and competitive bowling, and horse-riding, tennis, mini-golf and football can also be enjoyed in the resort. A car is highly recommended for exploring the areas around S’Algar, but there is a regular bus service that makes the short journey from the resort into the capital, Mahon, with its’ excellent shops, well-stocked market and delicious restaurants.
