Beaches
Protaras is famed for its crystal clear waters and picturesque beaches. A short stroll will lead you to a number of isolated coves, magical reefs and sandy bays. Why not venture to Fig Tree Bay, a stunning beach with incredible views, offering a variety of different water sports. Nearby, Green Bay beach is perfect for lazing in the sun away from the crowds. Only a ten-minute drive from Protaras is Cape Greco, an exquisite beach and considered by many one of the most beautiful places in Cyprus.
Watersports
There are many watersports available to try whilst on an activity holiday in Protaras. Jet skiing, water-skiing, paragliding and parachute rides are just a taste of what is on offer in the water. You can also venture to the nearby Cape Greco for underwater activities such as snorkelling and scuba diving.
Diving
Protaras is famed for having the finest diving in the east of Cyprus, with an abundance of reefs, caves and canyons to be explored. There are a number of PADI certified dive schools in the area, suitable for those scuba diving for the first time, and for those with previous experience. The shipwreck Zenobia is rated in the top five wrecks in the world and is easily accessible from Protaras.
Hiking
There are many pedestrian trails running from Protaras, the perfect way to explore the surrounding area with ease and safety. Impressive cliffs, sea caves, small churches and Roman ruins are just a taste of the sights to see around Protaras. The coastal path spanning from Paralimni and into Ayia Naya is about 15km long and ideal for both walkers and bikers, a great day trip.
Boating and Fishing
Hiring a boat is the ideal way to explore the deserted coves and secluded beaches that surround Protaras. You can choose from high-energy speedboats to skim along the water, or a glass bottomed boat to take in all the underwater action. Many local operators run fishing excursions, another great way to spend a day off the coast of Protaras.
Sightseeing
Cape Greco lies between Protaras and Ayia Napa, and is a protected nature park. From its highest point you are given spectacular sights out to sea and is a popular day trip amongst tourists. The Ayois Elias Church is another great excursion whilst on a cheap holiday in Cyprus. Here you can climb the steps to the top of the hill and take in breath-taking views of Protaras and its surrounding areas.
