Mayan Riviera Holidays

Holidays in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico

Some of the most stunning beaches in Mexico
The Mayan Riviera on the east coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is one of the world’s dream holiday locations. Its idyllic location combines powder-white sands, turquoise waters, magnificent coral reefs and proximity to all the archaeological and geological delights of this region of Mexico. From Playa del Secreto to Punta Allen in the south, is a 160 km long stretch of beautiful coastline. The Mayan Riviera, named after the ancient Maya civilisation, is today home to tiny villages, holiday resorts, Mayan archaeological sites, and of course those spectacular beaches. On the Mayan Riviera are found hundreds of luxury hotels and smaller establishments, all offering you and your family great hospitality and entertainment. Cancun airport is within easy reach.

Coral reef and unspoilt landscape
Holidaying on the Mayan Riviera amounts to far more than lazing in the Caribbean sun. Visitors should enjoy excursions to the renowned archaeological sites of Chichen Itza, Tulum and Xcaret. You can embark on jeep safaris into rainforest and mangrove swamps, or take a boat trip out to the island of Cozumel, a haven for snorkelling and scuba diving thanks to its spectacular coral reefs. There are coral reefs all along the Mayan Riviera, with Xel-Ha considered a particular snorkelling paradise. At the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve you’ll find a 1.3 million acre eco-tourism site featuring lagoons, tropical forests and a colony of turtles.

Atmospheric evenings

A holiday on the Mayan Riviera wouldn’t be complete without a taste of nightlife Mexican-style. Watch the Mariachi bands in action while sipping a Tequilla or robust red wine. Try the local fare - re-fried beans, tortillas, tamales and enchiladas and fresh produce galore. While staying on the Mayan Riviera you could also go horse-riding, cycling, paragliding, hiking and even swim with dolphins.

Weather in the Mayan Riviera

The Mayan Riviera climate is humid all year round, but the summer months see the highest levels of humidity. The skies are clear and blue, the wind is relatively calm, keeping the sea calm and warm, and none but the most cold-blooded of visitors to the Mayan Riviera will need a second layer in the evening. The temperatures along the Mayan Riviera reach 33C over the summer season, and the Caribbean Sea isn’t much cooler, at up to 28C. The summer is however the rainy season in Mexico, and the coast is subject to short bursts of heavy rainfall in the afternoon. It won’t stop you getting an impressive tan during the morning, but don’t forget that sun lotion.
