Pampatar Things To Do
Watersports
The watersports at Pampatar are legendary: pick and choose from bog standard swimming to exhilarating stuff like jet skiing, diving, windsurfing and snorkelling. The fishing there is fantastic and keen fishermen line the beaches.
Beaches
If you’re romantically inclined and can picture yourself thundering across the sand on a huge, elegant horse, try horse back riding along the beach. Playa El Aqua beach has a lovely atmosphere, very chilled, a great place for leisurely swimming with a little market for snacks and beach essentials. Juangriego beach is famous for wonderful sunsets. Further afield, Ilsa Coche and Los Frailles are great plecaes for swimming and snorkelling. El Yague beach is the best place for surfing.
Golf
There’s wonderful golf at Pampatar in an amazing setting. It’s one thing golfing in a freezing wind on a Scottish course with the rain stinging your face. It’s quite another thing playing on a perfectly manicured course against an unbelievably green and lush tropical backdrop, palm trees and all.
Gambling
There’s fun and games at the local casino if gambling’s your thing, or you just fancy a go at it. Whatever, the setting is glorious.
History
Head off from Pampatar and you’ll discover that Margarita Island has a handful of historic castles: visit the forbidding La Asuncion castle in La Asuncion and the castle of Juan Griego. Pampatar has a castle of its own, well worth a visit if you’re interested in finding out about local history.
Boat Trip
La Restinga National Park is a protected natural lagoon of close-knit mangroves and shallow, clear water. The locals have set up little cafes all around the park, where you can stop off and try a delicious local fish dish.
Dolphins
Swim with dolphins at the Aqua Land water park just outside near Pampatar. Or just have fun messing around in the water!
Aircraft Flights
If you’re feeling like an adventure, you like really small aeroplanes and you’d love to see Pampatar and the surrounding area from high up, hire a light aircraft.
Shopping
Sambil id Margarita Island’s biggest shopping centre and it is really close to Pampatar. Pampatar, however, is the busiest town on the island and has loads of shops of its own – a fun place to wander around, find a bar, eat out or just sit in the sun and watch the world go by.
