Runaway Bay Things To Do
Beaches
Jamaica boasts some of the finest beaches of the Caribbean, with resorts such as Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and of course Runaway Bay. The sandy Runaway Bay beach is ideal for scuba diving, or for the more laid back tourists, glass-bottomed boat rides will provide the best of both worlds – a great insight into the local marine life – without getting your feet wet!
Runaway Bay Caves
There are literally miles of passages to explore in these caves which were originally hiding spots for infamous pirates, runaway slaves and Spanish colonists being pursued by the English. Steeped in history, these great caverns also feature an extraordinary array of stalactites and stalagmites.
Green Grotto Caves
For those seeking a holiday with the spirit of adventure, why not take a boat trip across a deep underground pool to marvel at the mysterious rock formations and extraordinary caves that plunge to depths of over 100 feet. There are two different caves which are most popular for tourists, the Runaway Bay caves and the Green Grotto caves, both which are estimated to be over half a million years old.
Columbus Park
The great Columbus Park marks the exact spot where the legendary Christopher Columbus first set foot on the island of Jamaica. This historic stretch of land includes an open-air museum with artefacts from the rich Jamaican history. On one of his later expeditions, Columbus was even stranded at the nearby St. Ann’s Bay – another resort which gives a great insight into the history of this Caribbean island.
Runaway Bay Restaurants
Whilst there are plenty of exciting things to do in Runaway Bay, it is often nice to take time out to kick back and relax, and there is no better way to do so than to enjoy the host of restaurants serving something for everyone - from traditional Caribbean cooking to Italian or even simply a buffet on the beach. Local restaurants serve spicy Jamaican dishes, with seafood a favourite. Most of the establishments have excellent views, friendly staff and live entertainment.
